Winter Car Storage Tips

Whether you’re the owner of a luxury sports car, a vintage vehicle or a regular motor, you may be wanting to opt for storage this winter. We’ve put together our top storage tips for your vehicle before the bad winter weather hits.

Choosing the right location to store your vehicle during winter is extremely important. If you have a garage, that will work perfectly. If not, a storage facility with a concrete floor will work well, and though it doesn’t need to be climate controlled, excessive moisture should be avoided.

Clean Thoroughly

Prior to storing your car over the winter period, ensure you take the time to give it a thorough wash and clean, both inside and out. This will help to guarantee your car is in perfect condition and hasn’t been sitting in dirt when Spring rolls back around.

Top Up

If any fluids need topping up, now is the time to do so. Fill your car with petrol, and top up any oil, water, anti-freeze or any other liquids that seem to be running low. When you come back to use your car in the warmer months, it will be ready and waiting for you!

How often do you check your tyres? Are they inflated as they should be? Have you checked the tread depth? Why not take the time to ensure your tyres are exactly as they should be, or get them replaced if you need to.

Many people opt to cover their cars if they are leaving them for a long period of time in storage. You’ll need to ensure you have invested in a quality car cover- don’t become tempted by a cheaper, plastic version! The main things to look out for when looking for a car cover are breathability and waterproofing- especially if you plan on storing your car outside. Whichever material you decide to choose, ensure it won’t be one that will scratch your paintwork.

Leave It Be

Many people are under the wrong impression that if you’re leaving a car in storage, it will need be started every few weeks or so. If you intend on taking the car for a nice, long drive every now and again, it’s better to leave it be. Starting your car for no reason can be detrimental to its health, as condensation will build up through its systems without burning off as it should.
